MULTI-FRANCHISE marine power company, Peninsula Power Products in Paarden Eiland, has become a regular supplier of main propulsion engines, gearboxes and generator sets for a number of established local boat builders supplying local, African and overseas markets with a range of vessels from patrol boats to luxury yachts.

The sale of two MAN 2842LE410 1100HP main engines and Twin Disc 5145SC gearboxes for a 22m aluminium crew boat for Nigeria. The vessel was built by Vee Craft  Marine for a major oil company and will be used to ferry personnel to and from the oil rigs. The onboard generator is a Perkins Sabre 45kva also supplied by PPP. Servest Marine (formerly Carrier Marine Services) recently took delivery of four 425hp John Deere 6090SFM engines coupled to Twin Disc 5114A gearboxes, for their two new fast vessel supply boats. The 14m catamarans are being built by Lee Cat in Port Alfred, and are destined for new services in Mozambique and Richards Bay. Luxury yacht builder Southern Wind Shipyard was supplied with an FPT/Iveco N40 250HP main engine coupled to a Twin Disc MG5050SC gearbox. The engine developing 200hp @2800rpm is going into their  94ft sailboat for export to the Mediterranean. Well known Robertson & Caine fit their 47ft Leopard catamarans with John Deere 4045TFM50 engines, rated 150HP@2600 RPM. These engines are coupled to Twin Disc 5011A gearboxes with a gear ratio of 2.39:1.  Twenty four of these units have been supplied over the last 12 months. These vessels are destined for the British Virgin Islands for the charter industry. Pescanova Fishing has installed a reman MTU 12V2000M50 generator engine doing 600KVA @1500 RPM onboard ‘Eyethu Khosi’ a 65m bottom trawler based in Cape Town. PPP also supplied Basic Hydraulics with three FPT/Iveco NEF67 industrial engines developing 120KW @2300RPM. These engines were supplied as hydrostatic drives for barges on the Congo river. Peninsula Power Products now imports all marine and variable speed industrial engines and the full range of spares direct from the Fiat Powertrain Technologies/FPT  factory in Turino, Italy. These products (previously marketed as Iveco) are now offered at keen prices, the company says.
